NYELENI

Nyeleni is a collective artistic project that aims to present and promote the works of seven female photographers from Mali, in a traveling multimedia exhibition. This Nyeleni project bears the name of a legendary female figure in Bamanan culture, that of a woman who fought hard for having worked harder and with more results than men, even in traditionally male fields such as agriculture for example. Nyeleni is also the symbol of feminine audacity and oppression. The project helps develop and share visual stories that reveal the hopes, dreams and aspirations of this generation of women photographers in Bamako; what they denounce, what they want to change, what they cry about and what they heal from. The Nyeleni Project provides a time and space to experiment and produce personal voices and visual expressions.
